Venerable Ru Chang expressed hope that the participating monastics and staff involved in metadata cataloging would, through this training, ensure the long-term preservation of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s literary and cultural materials through digital archiving. By cataloging and interpreting these materials, their archival value can be further highlighted, enabling the rich legacy of Venerable Master Hsing Yun’s lifelong contributions to the promotion of Buddhism to be shared with the world.
The project’s collaborating partner, Systex Corporation, provided a two-day training program covering topics such as digital archiving standards, digital preservation, copyright and rights management, and information retrieval. The training also offered recommendations on object classification and cataloging rules based on object type.
Through practical case studies, the training enabled participating monastics and staff to gain a clear understanding of the principles of metadata cataloging and the processes of document digitization. Participants learned how metadata cataloging can establish deeper connections and records between Venerable Master Hsing Yun and the archived objects, facilitating researchers in locating relevant information more efficiently.
