About the Speaker: Professor Shao Dongfang

- Ph.D. in History, the University of Hawai‘i
- Taught at the National University of Singapore, Stanford University, and Fo Guang University (Taiwan)
- Formerly served as Director of the East Asia Library at Stanford University and Chief of the Asian Division at the U.S. Library of Congress
- A trustee of the American Tianxinghua Academy.
Chinese intellectual history, pre-Qin history, classical philology, library and information science.

About Professor Yu Ying-shih
Professor Yu Ying-shih (February 20, 1930 – August 1, 2021) was Professor Emeritus of East Asian Studies and History at Princeton University; Academician of Academia Sinica; member of the American Philosophical Society; recipient of the U.S. Library of Congress’s third John W. Kluge Prize for the Study of Humanity and the 2014 Tang Prize in Sinology.He was revered in academic circles as a leading authority on Chinese intellectual and cultural history both in Taiwan and abroad. Professor Shao Dongfang enjoyed a deep friendship with Professor Yu Ying-shih spanning several decades and respected him as an academic mentor.

Fo Guang University is honored to welcome Professor Shao Dongfang to speak on the life and legacy of Professor Yu Ying-shih. With the strong support of President Chao and the generous assistance of Dean Chu Chia-wen of National Dong Hwa University, Professor Shao has chosen Fo Guang University as the venue for his only lecture in Taiwan.Faculty and students are warmly invited to join us for this exceptional event, an opportunity not to be missed.
The lecture will explore three major aspects of Professor Yu’s life and work:
- His academic achievements, especially in historical scholarship;
- His moral character and personal integrity, especially in interpersonal relations;
